Do i have to pay VAT for a product like laptop in UK?
Hey guys.I live in Pakistan and my father goes to the UK frequently since he is a pilot.I decided to get a samsung R580 laptop from the UK when my father goes there.Will my father have to pay VAT for the laptop.I don't have any property or any relation with the UK.My father goes there as a foreigner and not a person who lives there.I live in Pakistan and not UK.

Provided he purchases the laptop from a retailer that participates in the retail export scheme (this is a voluntary scheme, so not all retailers do) he can declare his intention to export the machine at the time he buys it and fill in the necessary paperwork. The VAT is paid at the point of sale but when he leaves the country he can present the machine and paperwork to Customs as proof of export and they will refund the VAT.
