Do I need a voltage converter for my laptop when I travel to the UK?
I have the plug-in adapter but do I need a voltage converter for my laptop? Someone told me that my laptop should automatically detect the voltage difference and it just converts itself. This makes me nervous as I don't want my laptop to blow up!

Answer 1 :
Yes if the plug in adapter does not automatically adjust to the new voltage, they are on 220, whereas we are on 120. Plus, the outlet plugs are different than ours.
Answer 2 :
U should carry a voltage converter to be on safer side...
Answer 3 :
hell ya they r 2 compleaty diffrint types of voltig
Answer 4 :
Don't worry, it will just convert itself. My sister bought a laptop in Sweden and brought it back here to the United States, and all she needed was the power adapter converter, not the voltage converter. Unless you are using a very old laptop you won't have any problems.
Answer 5 :
Unless you want to destroy your laptop, you're going to need a power converter plug since Europe is on 200+ volts and America uses something like 112 volts.
Answer 6 :
There should be a rating plate on one side of it if it says it is good up to 240-250 volts you don't need one, but you will need the plug adapter. Never try to us a voltage converter on you computer use a step-down transformer(240-250v to 110-120v)
Answer 7 :
Yes you would. Some laptops have variable power supplies but not too many do. You can check the power brick name plate. If it says 110-220v 50-60 Hz then yes it will work. Their voltages are usually 220V compared with our 110V. You just need the correct plug converter to plug it in.Best bet is to check with a place that deals in travel. They would have a kit with multiple converters for the various styles of European plugs. Or check with the manufacture of the laptop for a European power supply.

Answer 9 :
Look on your laptop's power adapter. If it shows 120V/220V 50Hz/60Hz, then it will work. You may need to get an apapter that changes the standard 110V plug to that UK uses.
