Advice needed regarding taking a laptop from the UK to Pakistan, Islamabad?

Advice needed regarding taking a laptop from the UK to Pakistan, Islamabad?
I'm planning on taking my laptop to Pakistan whilst I'm there on holiday. Can anyone give me advice of the pitfalls, it's common knowledge that the folks in the Islamabad customs are con artists. But as far as official law goes is there anything preventing me from taking my laptop with me? Any advice is highly appreciated, best answer obviously gets 10 points. Thanks in advance.

How much will UK Customs charge me on importing a laptop from the USA.

How much will UK Customs charge me on importing a laptop from the USA?
Hi I'm considering importing a laptop from the American computer store www.excaliberpc.com to my home in the UK. After currency conversion the laptop costs £627 (or there abouts) and shipping approximately £71. Basically can somebody who knows tell me how much I'll be charged by UK customs (if any) and how this will affect the delivery time (I intend on paying a fair amount extra for expedited international delivery. Thanks in advance for any help, I'm very grateful!

Answer 1 :
It depends who the company ships with, they all have different charges. I often recieve car parts from america and find UPS or parcelforce are most likely to charge. You can contact the company and ask them to send it as a gift or mark down the value of the goods as often import tax is done as a percentage by customs whereas the shipping company usually charges a set fee. Bear in mind when doing this the item will not be insured for the correct value if lost in the post (but ive never had a problem with anything being lost and you still get a tracking number). Hope that helps
Answer 2 :
Forwarding company offers international shipping services from pretty much any online store. However, they also offer a free Landed cost estimate that includes ALL charges (shipping, duties, taxes, etc.) Just input the information you provided here: http://www.bongous.com/consolidation_calculator.php There is no obligation and it takes 2 seconds to get the estimate. I am in AU and I "trial run" all my purchases that way.
Answer 3 :
Tax will be around 20% but be aware that you will need a voltage adaptor for it to work in the UK, and if it comes with a warranty it will not usually be valid in the UK.

What are the UK broadband providers that give a free laptop too?

What are the UK broadband providers that give a free laptop too?
A while back there was a whole lot of advertising from broadband companies in the UK where if you sign up to their broadband packages you get a free laptop as well. Are any of these still going? I know AOL is still doing it but who are the rest?

Answer 1 :
3 are doing this if you sign up for mobile broadband at £35 a month. I would avoid this offer, the catch is its a 2 year contract with limited download capabilities, sure the AOL one was 10gb a month. The laptops are very basic spec and your stuck for 2 years with the same provider.

Is it cheaper to buy a laptop and iPod in UK, Thailand or Australia?
I am going to Thailand for a month and then Australia for a year. I want to have a laptop and an iPod for my time i oz. Considering the inconveniance of having to look after expensive items whilst in Thailand I was wondering if there was any difference in laptop and iPod prices here in the UK and in Thailand and oz and if any were particularly cheaper or more expensive.
