How do I get a UK pound sign on a US keyboard? My laptop was bought in Canada and does not have a pound key.

Go to the Run prompt and type 'charmap' then pick any character you want.
Answer 2 :
In Windows XP, go to: Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Character Map. The pound symbol should be in that grid. Highlight (or click) on it, and hit the "Select" button, and then the "Copy" button. Then go to the application you want to paste it to, and right-click at the point you want the pound symbol, and select Paste.

As you hold down alt press 0163 in the keypad and you get.... £

It's the # signature. I haven't a clue as to why it is that way. Sorry. Seems to be somewhat universal. I don't have a "pound" key on my keyboard either ... and it is Canadian but I was informed that the "#" substitutes as the equivalent of a pound, at least in weight formulae. The "#" sign is referred to as the "pound key".
